Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper
A moving liturgy highlighted by the Washing of the Feet of the 12, Eucharistic Procession, Stripping of the Altar, and the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose, where, in imitation of the Apostles, we are invited to watch and pray. Sacred Heart will remain open until midnight for personal adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. It is a tradition for Catholics to visit several parishes on Holy Thursday to pray before the Blessed Sacrament so be sure to also visit other participating parishes on this holy evening after Mass at Sacred Heart.
Good Friday Commemoration of Our Lord’s Passion
The celebration of Mass is strictly prohibited on this day. This traditional service includes the Veneration of the Cross and the reception of Holy Communion. Our Veneration of the Cross even includes a relic of the True Cross! The Church, in its wisdom, places us squarely in the middle of Christ’s Passion during the liturgy by putting the words of the crowds that witnessed Jesus' death on our own lips as we read the Passion. This is a solemn day of silence, fasting, and abstinence for all Catholics.
Holy Saturday/The Easter Vigil Vigil of the Resurrection
The pinnacle of the Church’s year is this evening’s Mass that begins outdoors with the blessing of the Easter Fire and the Paschal Candle. We enter into a darkened church that is soon illuminated with the “new fire” and our Alleluias resound as our adult candidates are received intofull membership in our Church. This Mass is “high liturgy” to it’s finest with all of the smells, bells, whistles and more!
Easter Sunday
We celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord with the renewal of Baptismal promises and the sprinkling of Easter water. Because of Easter, we are to be bold proclaimers of the Gospel, ready and willing to stake our lives on the truth of what we know and believe. Rejoice! He is Risen!
